On Tuesday, Jan. 14, the City of Watsonville honored Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay with a proclamation recognizing our unwavering commitment to building affordable housing and strengthening the Watsonville community, as well as the greater Santa Cruz County area. As the proclamation noted, Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay has been transforming lives in Santa Cruz County for 36 years, empowering families to achieve first-time homeownership and build stability in one of the nation’s most expensive housing markets. With plans to build 13 homes in Watsonville in 2025, Habitat for Humanity remains a premier affordable housing provider and a beacon of hope, dignity, and community impact.

"This proclamation is a testament to the power of community and what we can achieve when we work together to address the critical need for affordable housing," said Catherine Stihler, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay. "We are incredibly grateful to the City of Watsonville for this recognition and for being such a steadfast partner in our mission."

This proclamation follows the passing of Former President Jimmy Carter, who, along with his wife, Rosalynn, was an inspiration as a long-time volunteer and advocate for Habitat for Humanity’s work across the globe.

Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Our mission is to build decent, affordable homes and provide home ownership opportunities to qualified families who live and work in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. Together, their volunteers and families have built 65 homes supporting 77 families, with further plans extending through the foreseeable future. Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay is an independent locally operated and funded affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.
