Community leaders, elected officials, partners, supporters, and the Fiorvich family gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of Evan Circle, a new 13-home affordable housing development that reflects Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay’s commitment to opening doors and framing futures for local families.
Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay proudly celebrated the groundbreaking of Evan Circle on Friday, May 8, marking an important milestone in the creation of 13 new permanently affordable homes for families in Freedom.
The ceremony brought together community leaders, elected officials, volunteers, neighbors, and supporters who share a commitment to expanding affordable homeownership opportunities throughout Monterey County. The event highlighted the power of collaboration and what can be achieved when organizations, local leaders, and residents work together toward a shared vision for the community.
Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren joined the event as keynote speaker, speaking to the importance of investing in affordable housing and building strong partnerships that create long-term stability and opportunity for working families.
One of the most memorable moments of the ceremony was hearing from the Fiorvich family, for whom Evan Circle and Evan Court are named. Evan Fiorvich shared remarks that added a personal connection to the day and reflected the deep community roots behind the development. Guests gathered at the project site for remarks, a ceremonial first dig, and an opportunity to connect with the many individuals and organizations helping bring the vision of Evan Circle to life. The celebration continued afterward at the Habitat ReStore in Watsonville.
“As we celebrate 50 years of Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay, projects like Evan Circle remind us what is possible when a community comes together with a shared vision,” said Catherine Stihler, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay. “We are not just building homes, we are opening doors, framing futures, and creating opportunities for families to build stability and thrive for generations to come.”
The groundbreaking of Evan Circle reflects Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay’s 50th anniversary theme, Opening Doors, Framing Futures. More than a construction project, Evan Circle represents stability, opportunity, and the dream of homeownership for 13 future families. The momentum from projects like Evan Circle continues to strengthen Habitat’s vision for the future, with additional affordable housing and community development projects planned across Santa Cruz and Monterey counties in the years ahead.
Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay is deeply grateful to every partner, donor, elected official, volunteer, and community member who joined us to celebrate this important step forward.
