Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay’s success is supported by outstanding leadership at all levels of the organization including our visionary Board of Directors. After three years of dedicated leadership as Board Chair, Doug Yount has concluded his term and has proudly passed the torch to Kathy Arola.

During his six-year tenure on the Board, Doug has led Habitat for Humanity through remarkable growth and achievement. Under his leadership as Board Chair we have launched an ambitious new strategic plan, executed large fundraising events, and completed 11 homes in Santa Cruz. His dedication and vision have helped shape the success of our team and left a lasting impact on the organization and the families we serve. His leadership has strengthened our partnerships, expanded our reach, and set the stage for continued success. “I am honored to have served Habitat as Board President and Chair.”  Doug shared.  “These last several years have been both challenging and rewarding for Habitat, and the organization is now poised to accomplish great strides in providing much needed affordable for-sale housing in the region. Building on a solid financial foundation, a proven track record, a strategic focus, an experienced dedicated staff, a new world class CEO, a highly effective board of directors, and increasing community presence, I have no doubt Habitat will set the standard for non-profits in the region. With new Chair/President Kathy Arola, Habitat is ensured of tireless dedication and keen leadership to achieve its mission, particularly as it expands into Monterey County.”

Kathy Arola has tirelessly worked in service of her community her entire career, having served as teacher and administrator in P.V.U.S.D. for 30 years. She has decades of experience in organizational leadership, supervision and management, and building community partnerships. Kathy has been a board member for 6 years and has played a role in expanding our impact and by cultivating a culture which invites multiple perspectives and effective collaboration. Her passion, energy, and focused work ethic will engage and inspire us as we move our central offices to Watsonville, expand our reach into Monterey County, and break ground on two big projects: 13 homes in Watsonville, and 9 homes in Marina.

“It is an honor and privilege to work with the Board, staff, volunteers, and community partners to provide affordable housing in the Monterey Bay Area,” said Kathy Arola. “Now more than ever before, our work is critical as we face a severe housing crisis. Our collective efforts can help strengthen families, affect generational change, and help revitalize communities. I look forward to implementing our Strategic Plan and building strong partnerships for success.  Presenting the keys to new homeowners is incredibly rewarding, as home ownership creates life-changing opportunities for local families.”
